A Hint of Science

Creative expression sprinkled with scientific knowledge

There’s a place for science almost everywhere in our lives. Sometimes, scientific communication shows itself explicitly, like when a viral disease outbreak or the launch of a rocket make it to the headlines in the news. Many other times, and dare we say, most of the time, the daily presence of science is more subtle. It can be when surfers discuss the period and amplitude of the swell that is coming up or when a friend recommends kombucha because it’s good for your gut microbiome. These lighter, more personal ways to talk about science can be very effective to make scientific knowledge easier to digest and connect with. And no less importantly – it’s just more fun!

A Hint of Science is a session within PassioInventa that emphasizes creativity first, then scientific communication next. We want to share creative, good-quality content, while assuring that reliable and meaningful scientific knowledge is integrated.

Our platform is supported by a collaborative network of creative people that are interested in applying their artistic skills to scientific communication, whom can be both scientists and also those without a formal academic training.

Are you interested in joining the team? We want you! We need contributions from creative writers, artists and/or scientists.

Skills that we’re looking for, not exclusively, are:

-       Creative writing: short stories, poetry

-       Visual arts: drawing, painting, digital illustration

-       Photography: wildlife, landscape, urban

-       Filmmaking: short movies, documentary

Here are the general guidelines:

  1. Get in touch with us at hintofscience@gmail.com . Let us know how you’d like to contribute and send us your material.

  2. Contributing authors will have their writing edited and fact-checked by the associated scientists of PassioInventa. We prefer creative short stories (<1,000 words) but we are also open to other forms of writing, such as poetry, if they fit in the proposal of the session.

  3. Contributing visual artists, photographers and filmmakers will have a key role in complementing the storytelling with a visually appealing platform. Creating illustrations or sending us photos for the short stories are one of the most important ways to contribute. All material used will have their associated credits and your profile will be featured on the website and social media content as you wish.

A Hint of Science is a brand-new project, so we’re especially open to constructive feedback. Feel free to contact us if you have ideas to share.

Join us to make science personal, creative and fun.

Love,
